Dr. Anne van der Spek

Dr. Anne van der Spek, Amsterdam UMC

Anne van der Spek is a clinical fellow in Endocrinology at the Amsterdam UMC. She graduated in medicine in 2012 from the University of Amsterdam and went on to obtain her PhD in 2018 on the role of thyroid hormone in innate immune cell function under supervision of Eric Fliers and Anita Boelen. She continues to combine her clinical work with translational research on thyroid hormone action and thyroid disease. In 2021 she paused her clinical training for a postdoc at Weill Cornell Medicine (NYC) with Anthony Hollenberg on the effects of thyroid hormone receptor beta signalling on hepatic glucose metabolism and insulin resistance. Currently her research at the Amsterdam UMC focuses on the role of the gut microbiome in autoimmune thyroid disease, and thyroid hormone action in innate immune cells.
