Prof. dr. Els Nieveen van Dijkum

Prof Dr Els Nieveen van Dijkum is the current head of the endocrine surgery unit in the Amsterdam UMC. After her surgical training in Rotterdam, the Erasmus MC, she was striving for a career in endocrine surgery and received a fellowship from the Dutch Cancer Foundation to be trained in endocrine surgery abroad. She worked in Marburg, Germany, Mayo clinics, UA and The Sahlgrenska Sjukhuset in Gothenburg Sweden. Thereafter she was appointed as staff surgeon in the Academic Medical Center which is now an alliance with the VUMC as the Amsterdam UMC. The care for patients is organized in the Amsterdam Center for Endocrine and Neuroendocrine Tumors ( ACcENT) and has an ENETS as well as ERN accreditation for these rare tumors.

She is the current chair of the Dutch Endocrine Surgery Working group and a member of the Dutch Adrenal Network board. She is also active in study groups of ENETS, active in the DPCG and one of the work package leaders in the FORCE-study for rare cancers in the Netherlands. Her main focus of research embraces pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, small bowel neuroendocrine tumors, benign and malignant thyroid and adrenal tumors. Apart from clinical work and research appointments, she is the director of the residency training program for surgery.
